What you'll learn

  • Understanding Filter Types and Their Uses: Learn to understand different filters, including ND (Neutral Density), Graduated ND, and Polarizers. Learn how each filter works, when and why to use it, and how it can dramatically improve the quality of your landscape shots.

  • Creative Exposure Control: Master using ND filters to control light, allowing for long-exposure photography that creates beautiful, silky smooth water effects, dreamy skies, and motion blur. You’ll also learn how to handle tricky lighting conditions, balancing bright skies with darker foregrounds using graduated filters.

  • Enhancing Colours and Contrast: Discover how polarizers can cut through glare and reflections, enriching the colours in your scenes, from deepening the blue in your skies to bringing out the vibrancy of foliage and water surfaces.

  • Practical Field Application: Learn step-by-step how to set up your filters on location, with hands-on demonstrations and troubleshooting to ensure you apply the techniques effectively. Get familiar with stacking filters and handling the equipment to get the most out of your filter kit.

  • Compositional Techniques with Filters: Explore how filters affect your composition, from creating balanced exposures in high-contrast scenes to crafting artistic images with intentional blur or enhanced clarity. You’ll learn how filters can open up new creative possibilities that aren't achievable with post-processing alone.

  • Common Mistakes and How to Avoid Them: Learn about the common pitfalls photographers face when using filters, from vignetting to colour cast issues, and how to overcome these challenges with simple techniques and proper filter selection.

  • Real-World Experience: By the end of this workshop, you’ll not only understand the theory behind filter use but also have practical, hands-on experience applying these techniques in varied lighting conditions, ensuring you leave with the confidence to use filters in your photography projects.
